From Chapter 5. The False Hope

Life is full of memories that if we fully capture, as in a painting, we can always appreciate. I can still see that outdoor restaurant in Lisbon on a cobblestone street in the glow of the partial moon, the sound of water slapping against the riverbank not far away, the aromas from the nearby restaurant kitchen, and the sight of Carrie across the table. We talked about everything and nothing. It seemed like time stood still on that evening. Maybe it did.

From Chapter 10. What Matters in the End.

In the final analysis, the bargain Carrie made to take her chances with the various treatments did provide her with over twelve years of productive life. At the end, having witnessed the arrival of her first grandchild, I think Carrie would agree that it was worth the effort to charge forward with eyes wide open into that third treatment regimen. Carrie knew she was at peace with her Maker and in her heart, knew what mattered in the end!
